This is The Opposite Locker - FarOut Fridays where we try and sort out the cool from the square when it comes to the automobiles of tomorrow (concept cars). This is a discussion system detailing how cool a car is, not how fast, fun, or frivolous it may be, but how well it looks in the cat's pajamas.

But, you may be asking, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

The coolness of a concept car is as much about what the concept can spawn when the ideas and design theories reach the marketplace as it is about the car in its current state holding use in one of our current hypothetical lives.

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! * - As !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! will have you know, "Look. The Audi is awesome. Tons of power, rallycar capabilities, and a little edgy looking. But good god, it is the dorkiest shit I have seen in a long time. Those giant wheels, that ridiculous 4x4 stance, the weirdly angular lines? No. Just no. It's so dorky. It's the geeky science project that you think is interesting, but you'd never talk to your friends about it." Uncool.

Future Kids On The Block

For a concept that is cleared for production, the Cadillac Converj carries with it an ethos that is not as outlandish as most concepts. Built from the unsold Chevrolet Volts carcases, the Converj promises sustainability through luxury; it's main (and only true) competitor is a Lexus. Most expensive luxury brands have avoided the hybrid market because they all originally thought that if someone was willing to spend and exorbitant amount of money on a vehicle, they don't mind spending the relative cost for fuel; they are not taking into consideration the hippie crowd who have stumbled on money by offering them something better than a Prius. So, does all of this 'green meets luxury' somehow make this Caddy cool, or is it holding the brand back?

It should just be a hatchback. GM seems to think every car is a coupe

Exactly what Cadillac doesn't need.

Cool. Eco-friendly and great design, not many of them out there.

Decent styling but it's mated to the Volt powertrain. That makes it less cool.
I think of it as I do the Lexus CT200H. Cool styling, hatchback, kinda luxurious... But its mated to a Prius powertrain. Kinda kills it.

Uncool.

I thought Cadillac was supposed to be about American opulence. James May would look ridiculous smoking a cigar in this thing.
